It is never ok when someone when someone treats you badly or unfairly because of who you are. It might be because of: 

  • your disability or illness 
  • your age 
  • your identity, gender or sexuality 
  • who you choose to have a relationship with
  • where you were born 
  • where you live 
  • the colour of your skin 
  • the language you speak 
  • your religion 

People should not: 

  • hurt you 
  • call you names  
  • say nasty things about you
  • stop you getting medical treatment because of who you are
  • damage your things or your home 
  • stop you joining activities, meetings or clubs 
  • stop you going places because you need help and support 
  • refuse to provide services to you because of who you are
  • hide things that you need to communicate or move around 
  • give you important information in a way that you cannot understand 
  • stop interpreters, signers or lip-readers helping you 
  • not respect your religion 
  • not respect your identity, gender or sexuality
